To her friend...

  1. I LOVED them! They were such great comedies.... what?... they're not supposed to be funny?

  2. I went with my friend to watch the first Twilight film when it was in theaters. We went for the shits and giggles. Shits and giggles there were, but terrible acting and even worse story and writing aside, I was impressed with how damned brilliant the aesthetic was. Not gonna lie Catherine Hardwicke made one fine looking movie, especially considering the source she had to work with.

  3. If your straight and male you might as well castrate yourself for ever willingly having seen Twilight.

    1. .... Says the guy without a girlfriend.

I willingly watch it with my wife because we both love to ridicule it.

  4. Yes... THAT'S the worst thing about it.

  5. I felt the same way she did. When the commercials for the first DVD came out, I was horrified that I wanted to see the movie and I expected to enjoy it. I had my wife borrow a copy of the DVD from her sister so there would be no incriminating paper trail. I was so relieved when I was absolutely bored by the movie. About an hour into the film, I got up to check my e-mail.

  6. If you only see one Twilight movie (and really, why would you want to see more?) see "Breaking Dawn, Part 2". It has a FANTASTIC action sequence.

  7. Say hello to the worst person in the world.

  8. Twilight is one of the two films that I can't get through even with the RiffTrax commentaries. The Last Airbender is the other one.

    2. I managed with Rifftrax on the first but couldn't even do the second. It was just too much.

  9. I had no bias against it. I watched the first movie until she went to his house to meet his family before I decided I could spend my time better. But if other people like it, and they obviously do, then that's fine with me.

What I don't get is why so many people get so worked up about the movies and books. If you don't like them, then don't watch or read them. Why attack the people who do?

    1. No one likes to be reminded that there are people in the world who truly believe that Twilight is great literature. When something this awful is this popular, it makes the whole human race look bad. Stupid people in small numbers are funny. Stupid people that number in the hundreds of thousands is terrifyingly depressing.

    2. Because people are astounded as to why other people have latched onto such a thing. I watched (some) of a 6 part review of the final movie. It sounds ridiculous, and it's not just silly plot points.

I saw about 2 minutes of the movie, and it looks like a supernatural action movie made for tweens.

    3. Because hating things is fun. Hatred can be just as much a source of community and joy as love, if not more so.

Oh, you mean like the Tea Party!

      ... I'll get me coat.

    5. I dislike Twilight because it's an incredibly popular story that romanticizes and legitimizes destructive mindsets and actions such as stalking, abusive relationships, foregoing self-actualization in favor of romance, romance involving newborn (even unborn) babies, male sexuality as an uncontrollable beast and what have you.

It helps that the books are very badly written and failing at every level from basic storytelling mechanics to characterization to effective language and the movies chronologically go from incompetent to barely competent, certainly, but it's the story in itself that almost makes me believe in book burning

  10. I can kind of see where she's coming from. For all of the badness in the "Twilight" books and movies, there are a lot of good-looking shirtless guys in the 2nd movie (I'm assuming they are in the 3rd-5th movies too but haven't seen them). If you're in a certain demographic (and I am), good-looking shirtless guys can be awfully fun even if the rest of the movie is just plain awful.

  11. My sister hated the movies and the books, then she liked them ironically, now she full on just likes them. Slippery slope.
